Wrinkles Are A Consequence Of Aging - Or Are They?

When we think of wrinkles, we generally think of older women.  While many mature women do have lines and creases on their faces, not all of them do.  And, men get wrinkles too, don’t they?

In reality, the signs of aging can happen to anyone.  Younger people are especially prone to the signs of premature aging when they fail to protect themselves against sun damage.  This is quite common in warmer climates where outdoor activities take place year-round.

Those with lighter skin tones that burn easily are at the greatest risk for sun damage but the risk exists for anyone who spends a lot of time outdoors.  Exposed areas of the skin including the face, neck, hands and arms are the most likely to display signs of excess aging.

But what are some other causes of facial lines and wrinkles?  In many cases repetitive facial gestures can contribute to making a person look older than they are in chronological years.  Many times the lines between the eyebrows are formed in this manner.

Another possibility is smoking cigarettes.  The smoke itself is unhealthy for the skin and the puffing associated with smoking can cause lines to form around the smoker’s mouth.  Again, this is an example of a repetitive movement that can cause permanent results.

Skin that is lacking in moisture can also result in an aged look.  Keeping hydrated through adequate water consumption as well as using good quality moisturizing creams on the face and body contributes to proper hydration.  Wrinkled skin is often parched skin so make moisturizing a top priority.

In a nutshell, the best defense for premature aging is living well.  Protect yourself, keep your body and skin properly hydrated and give up unhealthy habits that can harm both your skin and your well-being.  Although we can’t stop the years from accumulating, we can make sure we wear each year well.
